Memory Boy

I got a strange feeling once before

That this would be one of those times

Where knowing that You know would be

Just about the worst thing possible.

Then I got the feeling that

I would never know anything if I didn’t know this, too.

When an outcome is certain,

It’s as good as happened.

When two people are playing a game and

Realize that the end is certain,

They simply start over.

And they don’t feel upset about it.

Usually.

Then I got the feeling that of course

The outcome is certain in some sense.

What would be the point in starting a puzzle

If you thought that it somehow may not come together?

It is as much to say that in starting out

You really had the notion that

You could find a piece that wouldn’t fit

As though the entire thing wasn’t whole

Before it got cut up.

So, then,

The space not only matches the pieces perfectly,

It is precisely what makes it possible

That they should come together at all.

And so,

There is an empty space

Which tells me

That things were so much better before.

But from another point of view,

It tells me that You are somewhere

Waiting.
